简介:6 out of 7 people found the following comment useful. "Flodder," released on 7 December 1999, is a brilliant and outrageously funny satire of society. Authored and directed by Dick Maas, the Dutch counterpart to John Carpenter, this film is a standout example of social commentary. The Flodder family represents the antonym of "society," embodying chaos and immorality. When forced to relocate from their dilapidated city slum due to toxic waste beneath their home, the city council has no choice but to assign them to Zoendal—a luxurious neighborhood in Amsterdam, akin to "Sun Valley," where doctors, snobs, and businessmen reside. The tennis club of Zoendal serves as the community's hub of politics and social status. The Flodder family's arrival disrupts this serene environment, bringing an onslaught of dysfunction and absurdity. Their characters, ranging from Ma Flodder, who scavenges trash for food and brews illegal liquor in her basement, to the eldest daughter, a figure of extreme vice, create a darkly humorous contrast to the wholesome Brady Bunch or the Waltons. The city council naively hopes the Flodders will adapt to their new affluent surroundings, only to witness them inciting chaos among the privileged residents of Zoendal. The film is both a provocative social satire and a straight comedy, showcasing Dick Maas at his creative peak. "Flodder" was a Dutch box office success in 1986, spawning two sequels and a TV series, though the originals remain unmatched. Interestingly, while the movie is available on DVD in Germany in a dubbed version titled "Flodders – Eine Familie zum Knutschen" (a playful translation), it remains inaccessible on video in the Netherlands. Despite this, the film retains a loyal, albeit silent, following, with its sharp wit and unflinching critique of societal norms still resonating today.
